Regarom

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was discovered by accident in 1838 by Henri Victor Regnault and rediscovered by Eugen Baumann in 1872. In both cases, a white solid was created after a bottle of vinyl chloride was exposed to sunlight. The result was a flexible and easily machined material, making it widely applicable in many commercial product applications. Because PVC is cheap and easy to work with, it is widely used in a variety of industries to replace wood and concrete, among others.

The regarom is a frame drum. The regarom is played with a drumstick with one or two slide ends, called “tipper,” “cipin” or “beater. If the regarom is played with the right hand, the player can use the left hand to make the tone change in pitch by holding that hand against the drumhead and moving it from top to bottom or holding or pressing it against the drumhead in other ways.

  1. The regarom has a diameter of 32 cm and a height of 6 cm. A sturdy PVC tarpaulin with a polyester thread is stretched by 2 mm nylon cord.

The regarom is a list drum.
List drums come in different sizes. The diameter and height of the drum determines the sound. The material of the membrane also affects the sound. For example, you have natural membranes, made of goat or buffalo skin, and artificial membranes made of plastic. Finally, the tightness of the sheet affects the sound. The tighter the skin, the sharper the sound.

The regarom owes its name to the French physicist, Henri Victor Regnault (1810 -1878). He studied the compressibility and expansion of liquids and the density and specific heat capacity of gases.

2. A unique system helps tighten the striking sheet. A piece of round wood on the back of the regarom serves as a support for the tuning hand.

Sooner or later, we will have to recognise that the Earth has rights, too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans.
